G-Dragon Leads BIGBANG’s Historic 2026 Coachella Reunion to Mark 20th Anniversary
In a landmark moment for K-pop’s global evolution, BIGBANG—led by G-Dragon—will reunite on the main stage of the 2026 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival for two performances on April 12 and April 19. The appearances will mark the group’s first official activity as a trio since 2022 and serve as the debut 20th-anniversary celebration for one of K-pop’s most influential second-generation boy bands.
YG Entertainment has formally approved the use of the BIGBANG name for the festival, confirming the participation of G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong), Taeyang (Dong Young-bae), and Daesung (Kang Dae-sung). Notably, T.O.P (Choi Seung-hyun) has publicly stated he will not rejoin the group for this comeback, making the Coachella shows a three-member reunion.
The festival, held over two weekends in Indio, California (April 10–12 and April 17–19), will feature BIGBANG as a headlining act alongside global pop stars such as Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, and Karol G. The 2026 lineup also includes SHINee’s Taemin and the U.S.-based global girl group KATSEYE, further underscoring Coachella’s commitment to showcasing K-pop’s expanding international footprint.

Industry sources note that BIGBANG was originally slated to perform at Coachella in 2020, which would have made them the first K-pop boy band on the bill. However, the pandemic forced the festival’s cancellation, delaying the historic milestone by six years. The 2026 reunion thus carries added symbolic weight, representing both a personal triumph for the members and a cultural milestone for Korean music’s global ascendancy.
G-Dragon has been actively teasing the comeback. In early February 2026, during a Seoul fan meeting, he confirmed BIGBANG’s 2026 return and shared behind-the-scenes rehearsal photos featuring dancers and a backstage ticket image emblazoned with “BIGBANG DESERT LIVE BACKSTAGE.” The posts also revealed an LED screen displaying the playful slogan “COACHELLALALA,” signaling the group’s excitement and creative approach to the desert stage.
Taeyang and Daesung have remained musically active in recent years, collaborating with G-Dragon on tracks like 2024’s “HOME SWEET HOME,” but the Coachella stages will mark their first joint performance under the BIGBANG banner since the release of their 2022 digital single “Still Life.” Fans anticipate the trio may unveil new music during the sets, given the group’s history of using major festivals as platforms for surprise releases.

Beyond the nostalgia, BIGBANG’s Coachella appearance is viewed as a strategic moment to reaffirm K-pop’s artistic credibility on the world stage. Having built a legacy with era-defining hits such as “Lie,” “Last Farewell,” and “FANTASTIC BABY,” the group’s return to a global festival circuit underscores the genre’s maturation from domestic phenomenon to enduring international force.
As anticipation builds, media outlets and fan communities worldwide are closely monitoring updates. With Coachella’s reputation for trendsetting performances and viral moments, BIGBANG’s 2026 reunion is poised to become one of the most talked-about moments in the festival’s history—and a defining chapter in the ongoing story of K-pop’s global conquest.
